An elegy to Maggie

1 You arrived uninvited as a canine

Pup to behold and to hold you was divine

As a baby of 30 days snatched from your mum

To be to our grown up kids a live toy rum!

2. As a bitch bewitched everyone

With your pranks and many a footwear torn

Shunned male company so not to be a burden

Forsaking progeny to escape worldly dungeon

3 Together we spent time immeasurable

In twelve years Time has made it insufferable

Flesh yours was heir to maladies indescribable

You fought with them as your play balls uncountable.

4 Love was the only emotion you could give

So your unacceptable behaviour to forgive

O Maggie, how many of us you could remember

Wanting to play with you every member.

5 All now gone, with you put to sleep

On a wet and dismal evening as we weep

A gentle shower from the dark skies

Drenching you for the ritual bath to

remove your guise.

6 My child gone you are forever

Forgive us for any misdemeanor

You reached Him early at His ca

How Islam came to India and why now it needs to go from India -14 : removal of capital from the Indian economy under Islam

Plunder that was from India!

Dikgaj's Weblog

[authors note :  posting on the theme that started the blog, after a long time. This item in the original series was drafted a couple of years go. But I realized that this portion may take up several blog-size posts, rather than one. Workload is heavy so – this sequence might come hence irregularly, but I am serious about taking up laying out the economic consequence of Islamic dominance on India. So please be patient.]

Removal of capital from the Indian economy by Muslims took place directly under three major forms (1) repeated invasions amounting or not amounting to permanent acquisition of territory with specific removal of capital in kind in the form of looted bullion and other valuables, as well as removal of human capital in the form of skilled and unskilled labour, and the basic reproductive unit for human labour, women, all as enslaved and exported…

Oh Lakshmi , Lord Brahma, Rudra, Sun God and moon god,

Find themselves inadequate to sing your praises,

And please tell how I can be adequate to sing you in poems,

I am completely drowned in poverty,

Drowned deeply in to hell,

Please extend your hand quickly,

And please lift me permanently from here, Oh Rema.

Kim Lakshmi bahunokthena , japithena puna puna,

Anyamme saranam nasthi, sathyam sathyam hari priye.                    23

Why should I endlessly repeat,

This request again and again,

I do not have any one except you,

This is the truth and the truth, darling of Hari.

Ethath sruthwa sathya vakyaam, hrushyamana hari priya,

Uvacha madhuram vaneem, thushtoham thave sarvadha.                         24

Hearing these truthful words,

The darling of Hari became happy,

And told in sweet words,

“I have always become pleased with you.”

Yathwayoktha midham  stotram  ya padishyathi manava,

Srunothi cha maha bhagas thasyaham vasa varthini.                               25

He who reads or hears this poem of praise,

Will become a great  devotee of God,

And I would be under his control,

And obey all his wishes.

Nithyam padathi  yo bhakthya , thwam Lakshmi sthasya nasyathi,

Ranam cha  nasyathe theevram , viyogam na pasyathi.                               26

To him who reads this prayer daily,

Lakshmi would destroy his quarrels,

And destroy great parting of ways,

And he would never  see her going away.

Ya padeth prathar uthaya, sradha bhakthi samanvitha,

Gruhe thasya  sada sthasye nithyam sreepathina saha.                                      27

He who read this daily as soon as he gets up,

With devotion and concentration daily,

Will have his house blessed with the presence,

Of Mahalakshmi, and her consort.

Sukha soubhagya sampanno, manasvee budhiman bhaved,

Puthravan gunavan  sreshto bhoga bhoktha cha manava.                                    28

He would lead a life luck and pleasure,

Become by mind intelligent,

Get children be of good character,

And would enjoy all pleasures.

Idham stotram maha punyam  Lakshmy agasthya prakeerthitham,

Vishnu prasada jananam, chaturvarga phala pradham.                                    29

This prayer which was sung about Lakshmi,

By the sage Agasthya  is greatly blessed,

Brings the grace of Lord Vishnu,

And gives four types of wealth.

Rajadware jayaschaiva , sathroschiva parajaya,

Bhootha pretha pisachanam , vyagranam na bhayam thadha.                           30

This would grant success in the door of the king,

Lead to the defeat of our enemy,

And is the remover of fears of ghosts ,

Dead souls and tigers.

Na sasthra anala thyaougathbhayam  thasya prajayathe,

Durvruthanam cha papanam  bahu hanikaram param.                                         31

Neither armaments, nor fire nor water  would cause fear to him,

And bad natured  and sinners would  greatly be harmed.

Mandhurakari salasugavam goshte samahitha,

Padeth dosha santhyartham , maha pathaka nasanam.                                           32

He would be happy  with properties and herds of cows,

And reading  it as an antidote for problems and

Would completely destroy effects of great sins.

Sarva soukhya karam, nrunam ayur aroghyadam thadha,

Agasthya munina proktham, prajanam, hitha kamyaya.                                           33

Granting all sort of good things, and blessing with health and life,

This was composed by Sage Agasthya for the great good of people.

[iii] नादरूपा, नादररूपिणी are Amba’s names in LalitaSahasranama 298 & 901

[iv]  Amba combines in Herself: the Creator – Brahma, hence she is Brahmi, Vishnu, the Protector and hence Narayani, Sustainer – Shiva, hence Shambavi, Sankari. L.S. 505: चतुर्वक्त्रमनोहरा.

Abhiraami Antadi – 25 of 52 (verses 47 & 48)

To attain the Yogic State

You improved my life which I perceived to be due Your worship

My petty mind would never have cracked this[i], nor do these verses

Nor my blabbering mouth could ever describe Your glory

Farther than the seven seas & mountains[ii] shines Your visage holy

Amidst the brightest Sun and the cool Moon, Mother extraordinary![iii]

48:

To be rid of bodily passions

Extraordinary is the sight of You lying on Siva’s shoulders

Who wears the brilliant Moon in his crest of plaited hair, as a fragrant creeper tender

Coiling itself around its support, with you placed in one’s mind

Even for a split second won’t have a need for any more occasions

Never ever a hut-like body with a fresh skin, flesh & blood-covered[iv] but only elation!

 [i]  Lalita Sahasraama 415 – मनोवाचामगोचरा

The purport of this verse is that those worshipping Amba will never need to take a new birth.

Abhiraami Antaadi – 24 of 52 (verses 45 & 46)

45:

To come out of public retribution

Open-hearted weren’t many realised souls who shied away from worshipping your feet[i]

Or aren’t there any so minded, likewise ignorantly even if I do that as a feat

Is that the fruit of their penances that you forgave them, so forgive me too

Your omniscience forgives everyone’s ignorance,[ii] not hate show you!

46:

To live in good conduct

Show you utmost compassion even to devotees hating your worship arrogant

Is there anything new in the worldly wise elders excusing the recalcitrant?

Once you forgave those who gave the pernicious poison[iii] to Nilakantha of pure bliss

Hail You of golden body, occupying His left half, forgive even if I do anything amiss!

[i]  In the old days before specific deities were worshipped embodying Supernatural powers, worship was to natural elements with a pure heart and without any codified procedure of worship. This was considered सव्यापसव्यमार्गस्था

[ii]  This is called “क्षमापमान” – by which errors in methods, language, mantra recitation, resources used, time of worship are sought to be excused. She is verily: अविद्यानां अन्तस्तिमिर-मिहिर द्विपनगरि – as sung by Adi Sankara in Saundarya Lahari:3, the Sun dispelling the ignorance of darkness from the mind of Her devotees.

[iii]  The Poet uses the Tamil word ‘திருமிடற்றான்’ here which is equivalent to the Sanskrit name of ‘श्रीकंठ’- meaning ‘poison-throated’. The Sanskrit letter ‘Shri’ can also mean poison!

L.S. 392: श्रीकंठार्द्धशरीरणी’ – half of Srikanta’s body.

Abhiraami Antaadi 23 of 52 (verses43 44)

43:

To banish evil

Anklets in your tiny feet[i], rope[ii] and bull hook[iii] in your left & right hand

Quiver set of flower-arrows five[iv], sweet words in your mouth grand

Beautiful in all the three worlds[v], ochre-hued physique[vi]

Such is your form[vii] when Siva killed the evil-minded demons of Tripura, sons of Taraka

Sitting by Him of scarlet colour[viii] as his half other

He whose archery with Mt.Meru as his bow is inimitable forever.

44:

44:

To be rid of separation pangs

Forever in penance[ix] to be the consort of Sankara[x], our Lord

Also becoming His mother once[xi], and She is Supreme God

Overlord of all other Gods[xii], why should I hesitate hence

I have no other God to serve open-hearted!

Amba controls passions with her rope weapon

[iii]  L.S. 9: क्रोधाकाराङ्कुशोज्वला – Amba holds the Ankuza – the bullhook used to control elephant – of anger

against the evil-spirited.

[iv] L.S. 11: पञ्चतन्मात्रसायका – Amba uses the five senses as her flower-arrows. Also see SL 7- धनुर्बाणान्  पाशम् सृणिमपि दधाना करतलै:

[xi] Compare SL     53 –     Amba’s capability to create the Trinity afresh, hence their mother. Also recall when the Trinity begged  Rshi Atri’s wife the ever-chaste, Anasuya, to feed them while being naked. Anasuya with her mystic powers turned them into toddlers and fed them, as they desired. Later when the consorts of Trinity turned up looking for their worthy husbands, they were handed in to their respective wives as babies. Hence, Amba handled Siva as she would a baby, hence his mother!

A version of Ramayana describes an incident where Ravana’s wife Mandodari – a devout devotee of Siva herself, was once conversing with Siva as a comely young man before her. Ravana suddenly appeared on the scene and to avoid any unpleasantness, Mandodari turned Siva into a toddler and Amba then appeared there to claim the baby as hers! Hence Siva’s mother! L.S. 1- श्रीमाता
